Coaching Programme

A 2018 graduate survey conducted with FDP Alumni found that 3 in 4 respondents were not in their desired job.

Coaching title

The Coaching Programme was born with the objective of expanding the horizons of past and current Future Development Programme (FDP) beneficiaries about alternative career choices. This derived from findings and conversations with Alumni and staff of Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) when it was found that a sizeable number of graduates

ended up working in jobs unrelated to their field of study.

The programme is designed to complement career mentoring programmes at polytechnics and ITE, and curates coaches based on the youths’ regular feedback on career interests.

Coaches are specialists and experts in their respective fields, who are keen to share their industry knowledge and expertise with youths. They participate in the programme on pro-bono basis and each commit to mentoring five FDP beneficiaries for a period of three months. For beneficiaries, it’s an invaluable chance to assess if it is a path that they want to pursue further.

How does it work?

Each coach kicks off their respective programme with a seminar or workshop under the umbrella of ‘Income OrangeAid #FutureSpeak’ <link to FS page> to offer some industry background and set the context of their curated coaching sessions.

Understanding that FDP beneficiaries often have to juggle school, work and caring for their families at the same time, the coaching programme is structured loosely and customised with each coach to optimise the mentees’ learning journey and experience. In this regard, the coaches are also encouraged to engage their mentees flexibly, leveraging face-to-face catch-ups and online assignment sharing.
