Experiences to add to your Bucket List!

By Eldrida Yeong, 22 May 2017 1370

Ok, let's face it - we're all slightly tired of the same old attractions popping up on our Instagram feed everyday. I once had at least 10 different friends in Japan at the same time, and I'm telling you that's a lot of bowls of ramen. The off-the-beaten-path travel experience is one that's only rising in popularity, because travellers are craving authentic encounters (and for some, that edge factor). Regardless, we've put together different types of activities that you should really add to your bucket list, so get ready to check them off!

1. Physical - Bungee jumping, Royal Gorge Bridge

If you're going to do a bungee jump, why not go all out and challenge the world's highest one? The Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorada, USA stands proudly at 321m, and is host to a whole range of daredevil activities. As the highest bridge in the USA, this is one for the books and your shaking legs. I can't imagine how it would feel like jumping and looking at the expanse of water below you get closer and closer…

2. Spiritual/Wellness - Kamalaya Koh Samui Sanctuary Resort

The Kamalaya Koh Samui advertises itself as a luxury wellness sanctuary and holistic spa resort - whew, that's a mouthful. For yoga lovers out there, this resort is the ideal location for you to feel rejuvenated inside out. There's a series of wellness programmes, each designed for a specific purpose, and you can even tailor your own wellness program! While this doesn't come cheap, bucket list experiences are usually hard to come by, so save up for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

3. Cultural - Japan's kimono and sado

If you're in the Land of the Rising Sun, you can't miss out on cultural activities. The wearing of the kimono, Japan's traditional costume, is an art unto itself, and what makes this bucket list worthy is the unhurried process of donning the kimono properly, complete with updo and accessories. The chado, also known as sado, is Japan's traditional tea ceremony, and is deeply rooted in Zen Buddhism. Its graceful movements and poise will leave you in awe of this tradition so rich in history, and is an experience not like any other.

4. Nature - The Great Migration

In my humble opinion, you don't need to be a nature lover to want to witness the largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world. The Serengeti, a region in Africa that extends from Tanzania to Kenya, is famous for its wildebeest migration each year. Serengeti is derived from the Maasai language, Serengit means "endless plains". I'm not much of an animal person myself, but the sheer scale of such a magnificent movement is truly breathtaking, and definitely worthy of your bucket list. Make sure to book the tours with a trustworthy agency - the best viewing periods are from July to October!

5. Gastronomy - Dinner in the Sky

You may have eaten dinner in one of the Singapore Flyer's famous pods, complete with a gorgeous view of the skyline. However, if you're an adrenaline junkie who doesn't fear heights, you can now have your dinner with your legs dangling 50m above ground! The Dinner in the Sky concept has overtaken many cities around the world, and can even be found in nearby Malaysia. If you ever wanted to eat a meal while on a rollercoaster, this is kind of like it - but without the drop.

6. Entertainment - a Broadway musical

A Broadway experience isn't quite like any other - for all of the hype surrounding it, it seems justifiable because there aren't any other musical viewing experiences quite as steeped in culture as it. While the biggest players are Chicago, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, there are many other musicals that you should watch at Broadway. The magic of the theatre, coupled with the music, is inexplicably beautiful.

While broadening your horizons overseas, don't be afraid to explore - Income's Travel Insurance covers treatment by a Chinese medicine practitioner or a chiropractor overseas or back in Singapore if you suffer an injury or sickness while on holiday. Your bucket list should be entirely unique and tailored to your own needs and interests - after all, these experiences should be impactful, and let you take on a new perspective in life.
